The Bicentennial of a Typographical Error?

2021 is Van Wert County's bicentennial year. The county and city are named for Revolutionary War hero Isaac Van Wart.  The story goes that when naming the county, an anonymous clerk made a typo and we became Van Wert. Even though it started out wrong, I think I prefer to live in a Wert, not a Wart.

My latest painting is of Van Wert's Main Street, facing east, at sunrise. This is the view as you walk across the street to the YMCA, in this case probably around 6 a.m. The building silhouetted against the sky is the local courthouse, built in 1876. I plan to do some interior drawings and paintings inside the courthouse sometime soon. Keep watching and thanks for checking out my blog.
